Everyone Active is a company which manages leisure facilities across the UK. I am currently working part time as a Lifeguard at Copeland Pool and Fitness Centre in Whitehaven. My responsibilities in this role include ensuring the safety of all customers, acting responsibly and reliably in dangerous situations and maintaining the services and the building. At this job, I spend significant time Lifeguarding which is a vital role for ensuring the safety of all customers because I must prevent any accidents from occurring and act appropriately in any dangerous situations to effectively save people's lives. Overall, this job provides me with various opportunities to experience different work environments and requires me to be polite and professional at all times. I complete multiple monthly training opportunities which ensure that my skills are up to date and that I am able to act effectively in emergency situations by providing first aid and rescuing people in danger.
Greenwich Leisure Limited is a company which manages leisure centers across the UK. Originally, I worked for GLL as a Recreation Assistant before my workplace switched companies to Everyone Active in June of 2026. I obtained multiple qualifications with this job including an RLSS UK Level 2 Award in Automated External Defibrillator and an RLSS UK Qualification Level 3 Award in Pool Lifeguarding which includes multiple vital units such as Operation and Supervision, Emergency Rescue Skills and First Aid, Illness and Injury Management.
Forth Engineering is a company based in Flimby. Forth Engineering focus on working as pioneers across multiple energy industries including nuclear, oil and gas and renewables. They also aid these industries by using robotics to perform hazardous tasks such as using ROVs to work with and relocate nuclear waste. At Forth Engineering, I viewed multiple differing workplaces and roles within the company. These roles differ greatly and range from 3D modelling and testing products to fixing equipment and customising parts to ensure their effectiveness. This provided me with unique experiences such as shadowing the sales representative and constructing robots which could traverse water. This work experience program helped me to improve many skills ranging from teamwork to problem solving.
GSK are a global biopharma company who focus on discovering, developing and delivering medicines and vaccines to people worldwide. With GSK, I completed a course which educated me about the process of medicine creation, testing and distribution. The online course provided me with deeper insight into the process of drug testing and development. It informed me about the processes involved in these different stages and the thought and ideas taken into account when developing drugs and working in a pharmacy.
Allied Healthcare Mentor is a company who work as a part of the NHS Confederation and focus on teaching people who aim to work in the healthcare sector. They host virtual work experience programmes which teach people about the healthcare sector and working with the NHS. This work experience program consisted of multiple sessions which involved watching the content which was provided demonstrated what happens in multiple workplaces ranging from pharmacies to ambulances and followed patients through their recovery. This experience provided me with significant insight into a variety of differing workplaces and improved my problem solving skills.
The Royal Institution is an independent charity who aim to connect as many people as possible to the world of science. They offer RI Masterclasses which involve specially trained experts who aim to teach aspiring mathematicians. I attended weekly lectures which covered multiple mathematical topics such as the nature of infinity. I was selected to attend these lectures as 1 of 4 students in my school. These lectures were hosted at Lancaster University and helped me to improve my problem solving skills by providing me with unique ideas which I may have not otherwise considered. These lectures allowed me to think deeper and improved my skills of thinking outside the box.
Cyberfirst is a government-backed outreach and education programme which is designed to create opportunities for young people. Cyberfirst offer multiple courses which focus on computing and security topics such as cybersecurity and encryption. I attended multiple courses with CyberFirst including both the defenders and advanced courses. In these courses we learnt about cyber security which included encryption, viruses and how authorities can use technology to retrieve data. In these courses, I learnt these topics, practiced exploiting security issues in older operating systems and completed an exam to prove that I had learnt the topics. This work experience helped me improve my IT knowledge and skills whilst enhancing my problem solving and communication skills.
In this work experience I learned to use workplace software and created a simple simulation of workflow. I also used this work experience opportunity to develop my project management skills by solving problems such as box fill and linear programming problems. This opportunity significantly impacted me as it developed and improved my problem solving and creative thinking skills whilst helping me to discover the career path I aim to pursue in the future.
I worked with Sellafield's Operations and Safety Case teams. With these teams I discovered many different work environments within the nuclear industry. With the Operations team, I discovered roles and responsibilities including ensuring that all machines are working correctly with no problems which is vital in a nuclear work environment. Likewise, with the Safety Case team, I discovered the importance and depth of ensuring that all possible safety hazards are accounted for. I learnt about some of the many risks involved with working in nuclear environments like Sellafield and was shown the lengthy process used to ensure that a safety case accounts for all risks and includes how to maximise safety and negate problems.
